Women of Color Film Festival

The Women of Color Coalition are having a mini-film festival (and performance perhaps?) in May. Here is a place where you can put down films you'd like to see and ideas about what you'd like to do for the festival. We can use this time to put up an installation.

Some ideas:

Nalini By Night, Nancy By Day - Sonali Gulati
Night Passage - Trinh T. Minh-ha
Surname Viet Given Name Nam - Trinh T, Minh-ha
Senorita Extraviada, Missing Young Woman - Lordes Portillo
panj e asr - At Five in the Afternoon - Samira Makhmalbaf

I thought it might be interesting to put together an installation using some of our artistic talents we could put something together. --Please write down your thoughts! - M

Alright so it's been awhile and other than Jhaleh's contribution we haven't conferred on the films. Let's include the short from 9/11 and two or three of these other films (or one that you contribute on Wednesday). I'll secure the rights and we can screen them the in a two and a half weeks. (perhaps the same week that we have the tiny theatre...get a little more publicity).

...also has a powerful five minute short as part of the video " 11’09’’01 ", a video that i think is a compilation of many filmmakers' takes on 9/11. (made in 2001) i believe her short is called "god, construction and destruction". i'll see if i can track it down, we watched it in feminisms class last quarter and i know it was on the reserves shelf. it's about the afternoon of 9/11, in an afghani refugee camp in iran, in a classroom of schoolchildren whose teacher is trying to explain to them what just happened in the usa...i vote to include this in the mix!
