Ms Magazine Image Analysis and Construction
We have a million Ms Magazines in the office from the 80s till sometime in the mid 90s. We thought it would be interesting to do some kind of creative use/disposal of these magazines. Do you think it would be fun to do an informal image analysis of both what we see and what we don't see in these magazines? Are women of color represented? How are they presented? What are the articles about and what is missing in the text of the magazine? Then I thought it would be fun to cut up some of the magazines and create what we think is missing or what we would like to see in the magazines. Just something fun and creative to do with these magazines.
What do you think?

Jhaleh and I were talking about this in the office today. We thought it could be fun to set one whole day aside to have the office open with the magazines, sissors, glue, and paper out. People could stop by, peruse the magazines and cut and create their own images and then head off to class. If we had the office open for the whole day, we could get a lot more people involved in a less-formal way.
Maybe we could figure out a way to display the finished images to share with the rest of the community?
Do you find this valuable?
